The Internet is now being described as the ‘Perfect’ delivery mechanism for Addiction. Online pornography and sexual addiction are now at pandemic limits. Because of the 3 A’s of online pornography: Accessibility, Affordability, and Anonymity and the explosion of online pornographic material, online pornography is being defined as “Online Crack Cocaine”. Businesses are being impacted, families and marriages are being torn apart, and children are being ‘Cyber Assaulted’ daily by online pornographer’s gone a-muck.

The statistics are horrifying. The average age of exposure to hardcore online porn is 8 ½ years old for boys and 11 years old for girls. 62% of all Internet traffic is porn related. It is estimated that there are over 20 million online porn addicts in the U.S. 52% of pastors admit to having problems with online pornography. There are currently over 4.2 million porn websites a 300% increase over the 1.3 million sites at the end of 2003.

Most online users cannot spend an hour online without being assaulted by online pornography. Current filtering technologies are helpless and ineffectual in being able to stem the tide of smut being forcibly offered up to our spouses, children, teens and employees.

Even one image getting through to the view of a child is one to many. It is time for the Christian community to take a stand for the educational benefits of the Internet and against the onslaught of objectionable material being offered up by those with no moral continence towards our children.

It is time for a moral, concerted, organized, fully funded, technological response to this invasion of damaging online material that has remained unchecked for years. It is time to enlist the brightest minds, the latest technology, and put forth an effort equal to waging war. For in the end, that is exactly what this is, a war. It is a war for the innocence of our children, the innocence of our families, and of our marriages. This is a war for the innocence of our clergy, our employees, and our businesses. This is ultimately a war for control of the Internet and it is a war we must win!
